Hybrid IT Executive Brief

Gartner recently published a report asking: “Can self-protecting storage replace traditional backup?”

It poses a provocative question that will intrigue any storage admin or IT leader that is unsatisfied with their existing backup solution. But is the answer really so simple? And can you believe the hype when the risk of ineffective backup is so great?

ARE THESE NEW BACKUP SOLUTIONS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Gartner describes self-protecting storage as “storage systems with native data protection functions that overlap with a traditional backup application.” This includes storage devices with native support for application-consistent snapshots, replication and simpler snapshot management for recovery.

Self-protecting storage can also include hyperconverged systems that combine storage, compute, networking and backup in a single box. Whatever form it takes, self-protecting storage is gaining more and more traction in enterprise.
