The Engineering & Design Institute London (TEDI-London) is a new higher education provider designed for future engineers, founded by Arizona State University, King’s College London, and UNSW Sydney.
INDUSTRY: Education sector
OBJECTIVE: TEDI-London required a comprehensive technology infrastructure to provision and launch its new London campus.
IT MATTERS: An IT printing solution that delivered on scale and security. Cloud-based printing and accessibility for hybrid, off-site and on-site collaboration. Resilient and scalable infrastructure architected to suit customer specifications.
APPROACH: Implementation of a comprehensive and scalable IT infrastructure that included connectivity, print services, audio-visual, and cloud-based services.
BUSINESS MATTERS: A secure and scalable cloud-based IT solution to meet the needs of a growing student population. A seamless user experience for students able to evolve as numbers and offerings expand on campus. And a sustainable digital and cloud-enabled platform with business and technology longevity.
“TEDI-London opened a new campus in Canada Water in London in August 2021 and required comprehensive IT provision across connectivity, infrastructure, print services, audio-visual, and cloud-based services,” says Sandi Leonties, Head of Technology at TEDI-London. “We had to ensure that the infrastructure we implemented was both scalable and secure so that it could grow with our business and remain sustainable and future-proof.”
The higher-education institution needed an IT and printing solution that would tick two very important boxes—scale and security. This is to ensure every part of the infrastructure is capable of handling growing student volumes that are expected to reach up to 900 occupants on campus. In addition, the team wanted a solution that would sit in the cloud to allow for greater flexibility and agility.
“We had no legacy infrastructure on site, so we needed to implement a solution that would evolve alongside our needs,” says Leonties.
This is where DTP Group stepped in and stepped up. With extensive experience in higher-education projects and a long-standing relationship with one of the key TEDI-London partners—King’s College London—DTP had the insights and toolkits that the institution needed to build a robust and scalable solution from day one. The team understood exactly what TEDI-London needed and how to create a solution that could adapt and evolve over time.
The solution had to meet TEDI-London’s key objectives of:
• Security
• Resilience
• Longevity
• Cost
• Cloud-based agility and future-proof longevity
• Flexibility
• Accessible printing services
With zero legacy infrastructure, the solution had to be built on fresh foundations and it had to fit within tight cost parameters. For the team at TEDI-London, it was imperative that the solution could offer a flexible and hybrid operating environment that would allow for students to manage their printing and education from both home and the campus. The system had to embed convenience and flexibility from the outset, and it had to be capable of adapting to unexpected expectations.
“Currently, our students can print using the systems for free, but we would probably like to charge for this in the future,” says Leonties. “We also want to ensure the data for prints is kept secure in the cloud, that we are able to customise print runs, and that everything is accessible to students and staff alike.”
The solution implemented by DTP ticked every box. The implemented solution leverages the security and functionality of HP printers, connecting them to the cloud for real-time monitoring and to allow for instantaneous changes to content. The printer architecture is secure, and functionality can be customised on demand, allowing for increased demand over time without mpacting on speed or capability.
Once the final solution was selected, the implementation process was smooth and seamless. The DTP team focused on providing TEDI-London with a comprehensive print platform that met its requirements and that could be adjusted on demand to meet changing student and educator needs.
“We’ve adjusted the settings on our printers along the way, ensuring that everything is correctly installed across all devices. It was a learning curve as we got to know the system, but it moved smoothly and DTP was incredibly responsive when we needed support,” says Leonties.
Today, TEDI-London has a responsive and accessible print IT infrastructure that’s capable of evolving with its growing student population and meeting its changing start-up expectations. The implementation with DTP was smooth and the support provided by the service provider meant that any hiccups along the way have been dealt with at speed, and within TEDI-London’s expectations.
