When it comes to infrastructure automation, it is safe to say that most IT chiefs are looking for the most clarity with a minimum amount of complication. HPE OneView and Cisco UCS Manager are two of the leading infrastructure management tools on the hybrid IT market today, and we believe HPE OneView is the better of the two – here is our reasoning…
Having an API which is unified for composable infrastructure is certainly a winner. It all comes down to using a single line of code when abstracting any infrastructure element, a welcome luxury for HPE OneView users, which Cisco UCS Manager users do not have. HPE OneView has a partner ecosystem which is broad, and incorporates DevOps tools such as Ansible and Chef, allowing for quick deployment of cloud native apps.
HPE OneView has been lauded for its usability when compared to Cisco UCS Manager. Its simple, consumer style user interface means that it is ready to facilitate improvements pretty much straight away.
But it isn’t just the user interface which cuts out the complications superbly, HPE OneView’s Global Dashboard also plays a big part in unifying the entire management process. HPE OneView measures up well when compared to the hierarchical user interface employed by Cisco UCS Manager, which could take longer to learn and use, increasing the length of time tasks take to be completed.
The automated lifecycle management offered by HPE OneView contrasts sharply with Cisco UCS Manager’s two mechanisms to deliver drivers and firmware. Users just need to make updates to drivers, firmware and BIOS settings once for them to take effect, and notifications are generated automatically when profile compliance is achieved – this is how transformational IT should be. The obligation of Cisco UCS Manager to perform each task independently can take up a lot of time.
