There’s no more hiding from climate change, it remains a risk that threatens us all. We are fast approaching the most significant climate change event of this century as the UK hosts COP26 – a crucial opportunity for governments around the globe to come together to make a positive impact on the planet.

As a technology services and solutions provider, we have a responsibility to ensure that IT doesn’t cost the Earth. This is why we’ve launched DTP Zero. Take a look at our sustainable impact achievements so far and how we’re approaching DTP Zero – our ambition to reduce our carbon footprint to net zero by the end of 2024.

We recognise that if we’re going to defeat climate change we all need to play our part, however big or small it may seem. As one of our core values, we champion positive sustainable impact and feel strongly about protecting our planet, people, and communities for future generations. Subsequently, we fully support the upcoming conference alongside everything it stands for. It’s time to come together and put our words into action in the united fight against the climate crisis.

What is COP26?

COP26 stands for the Conference of Parties and is the 2021 edition of the United Nations annual climate change conference. From 31st October to the 12th November, the UK will host COP26 alongside Italy, bringing together world leaders to commit to urgent global climate action.

Acknowledging everyone has a part to play in the fight against climate change, COP26 is working to increase the discussion around tackling climate change through numerous online activities during the lead up to the event. COP26 hopes to highlight, inspire and celebrate a variety of current positive environmental efforts being conducted across the UK. This year’s key emphasis is on a collaborative effort, highlighting the ways that small actions ultimately accumulate to larger collective action.

What makes COP26 so important?

Apart from becoming a decisive moment in making climate change an urgent and present danger to everyone on the planet – COP26 is the biggest summit the UK has ever hosted while becoming the most significant climate event since COP21 and the 2015 United Nations climate conference which led to the creation of the Paris Agreement.

What are COP26’s key objectives?

  • Asking countries to come forward with 2030 emission targets in aims to secure global net zero by mid-century.
  • Enable and encourage counties affected by climate change to protect and restore ecosystems.
  • Ensure countries deliver on their promise to raise at least $100bn in climate finance each year.
  • Increase action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and UN Framework Convention on Climate Change through accelerating collaboration between governments, businesses, and civil societies to transform current ambitions into actions to reach climate goals faster.

How can I get involved?

By helping to spreading awareness, empower voices and share your support regardless of how big or small your organisation might be. Here are few suggestions from COP26 …

  • 1 . Join the #RacetoZero: The UN-backed global campaign aims to rally organisations from a range of sectors and institutions to build a healthy, resilient, zero carbon economy. By entering the Race to Zero you would be joining 3,800 members in their commitment to half their emissions by 2030. Whatever size your organisation is, COP26 provide options suitable to you, thereby larger businesses are invited to join through Business Ambition for 1.5 degrees while smaller businesses can visit the UK Business Climate Hub.  Signing up means you will benefit from receiving ideas, support, and incentives to help meet the commitment.

  • 2 . Sharing Online: participating and sharing the hashtags online helps make your efforts heard while spreading the message and inspiring others. COP26 are encouraging organisations to use #TogetherForOurPlanet and #OneStepGreener to share experiences and current actions. Additionally, COP26 are providing useful toolkits to help make spreading the message even easier as well as listing numerous activities to be getting involved in. Through sharing online, COP26 hopes to illuminate ways ordinary people across the UK are making a difference.
